Overview
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide fragment reproducing the active domain of Thymosin β4 (Tβ4), a 43-amino-acid protein among the most abundant actin-binding proteins in mammalian cells.
Mechanism of action
The active domain (sequence LKKTETQ) sequesters monomeric G-actin and regulates its polymerisation into F-actin filaments. In research, this promotes cell migration and angiogenesis, and modulates inflammation in repair processes.
Research context
Thymosin β4 has been the subject of clinical trials by RegeneRx Biopharmaceuticals under the designations RGN-259 (ophthalmic: dry eye, corneal healing) and RGN-352 (post-infarction cardiac repair). TB-500 itself remains studied primarily in preclinical research.
